Colleagues,

Summer is in full swing, and Minnesota 4-H youth across the state are actively engaging in programs, projects, and experiences that build skills, spark curiosity, and create meaningful connections.

Many of you may have seen recent communications regarding the future closure of Bailey Hall and the Bailey Dining Hall on the University of Minnesota's St. Paul campus. The University has announced that Bailey Hall will close at the start of the academic year to make way for future campus redevelopment. This transition is part of the University's long-term vision to revitalize the St. Paul campus, which includes a commitment to constructing a new residence hall by 2030.

For those involved with the Minnesota State Fair, there is good news: Bailey Hall will remain available to house Minnesota 4-H livestock exhibitors during the 2026 Minnesota State Fair.

For generations, Bailey Hall has been more than just a residence hall. It has served as a home away from home for countless University of Minnesota students and Minnesota 4-H youth. Many 4-H alumni fondly remember their time in Bailey Hall during the state fair, where lifelong friendships were formed, independence was nurtured, and memorable experiences became part of their 4-H journey. While we recognize the significance of this transition, we are grateful for the role Bailey Hall has played in the lives of so many young people and look forward to future opportunities to continue supporting Minnesota 4-H youth on the St. Paul campus.
